2022 - 2024

No persona was my passion project, which provided the opportunity to self-learn design when I switched from game development and experiment with techniques which could be tested with a real audience.

Throughout No Persona’s tenure, we threw over 20 parties, grew an authentic music community and was rewarded an RA Pick for our 2nd Birthday.

Below is a collection of some of my featured work for the brand.

January 2024 Poster

This poster was created as an experiment with Touch Designer with the goal to create key art which would be audio reactive. The background was created using code, which would displace each frame a specific number of times depending on the track’s audio levels.

The night was thrown in January, a tough time for nightlife. So, I wanted to grab the attention of locals in the area by manipulating footage of Peckham Rye and creating something interesting.

Psychedelic visuals were always a key part of No Persona’s brand. Touch Designer was a perfect tool for archiving this surreal walkthrough through Peckham. This is because Touch Designer uses code to manipulate imagery and therefore could produce some very geometric results which would be difficult to achieve manually.

The post performed well attracting many Peckham locals to engage with the poster, and helped grow the brand’s recognition throughout South London.

September 2024 Poster

@Floating_bstrd was a huge inspiration behind this poster. I was obsessed with his use of negative space combined with surreal brutalist visuals. I wanted to have a go at something similar but put a No Persona spin on the artwork through animation.

The glitch effect was hand animated in After Effects, rather than using Touch Designer to create an Asset. This is because I had something bespoke in mind, I don’t think Touch Designer would not achieve.

The poster performed successfully and achieved above target with engagement as well as attracting enough foot traffic into the venue to fill the top floor and generate above the venue’s bar spend.

March 2024 Poster

This poster was an experimentation incorporating both Blender and Touch Designer into my poster design skillset. The 3D Model and particles were rendered in Blender and then composited and Mirrored in After Effects. The rendered composite was then put through Touch Designer to make the rotation audio reactive, more visually engaging, and to add that No Persona twist of being overtly surreal.

The subtle, psychedelic background was also created completely in touch designer using particles, following the poster’s motif of combing particles and displacement maps to stick within the theme of the poster.

The poster performed successfully on Instagram and attracted a large crowd, The night was a “b2b Special” therefore, the surreal 3D model was mirrored to fit with the theme of the night.

November 2023 Poster

This poster was another experimentation combining C4D and After Effects. The orthographic camera was used for the 3D scene to remove the field of view in the scene to replicate the old school 3D rave aesthetic.

No textures were applied to the 3D scene as I wanted to manipulate the render in After Effects, this there was more focus on configuring the lights in the scene to differentiate each of the elements within the scene. A Colorama and posterise effect was applied to the whole render to achieve the old school 90’s aesthetic, allowing the lighting to create the depth.

The poster performed significantly well on Instagram and helped us archive one of our largest crowds for our 1st Birthday.

November 2023 Promo Video

This promo video was a collaboration with videographer, Joe Rubio who is also one No Persona’s co-creators. I originally done the rough edit, splicing a track together and compiling the footage, graphics and poster into the timeline. Joe Rubio later added the transitional effects and extra cuts to really bring the edit to life.

The video was posted on the build-up to our first birthday event and achieved a high amount of engagement on Instagram. The video was also promoted and helped establish No Persona’s brand recognition throughout South London. The event was also successful and was one of our most busiest nights.

AV Loop

This animated visual was created to be looped on screens and projectors at our events. The idea behind the animation was to be bold and attention grabbing, so over time regulars to the venue would recognise our brand and be aware of the high production quality we put into every event.

The visual was not meant to be overtly distracting either. A lot of thought was put into how the visual should animate and how it would be timed so the loop would fit with different DJ’s sets. The cuts between each camera shot are more spaced out, however the bubbiling effect on the characters body is a lot faster, this created the illusion it was in time with the music at the venue.

The visual would also cast a hazardous red tint throughout the venue, we later supported this with high quality diffused pipe lights to make the dancefloor even more red. This was one of our signature touches which also helped with brand recognition.

UKG Special Social Post

Quick promotional graphic created using Touch Designer and After Effects to promote our Garage Special night. Displacement maps were core part of No Persona’s visual identity as the outcome would look and feel tastefully psychedelic. It also fitted within the theme of the electronic music we played.

No Persona LUT

Over time building on No Persona’s brand, we were really attached to using a highly vibrant vermillion red which soon become our core brand colour. The colour looks fantastic on phone screens, aswell as suiting the vibe of our dancefloor when we would use diffused lighting to illuminate our nights.

I later developed a personalised LUT which could be applied across all our digital content and posters to keep our Instagram grid looking consistent, build even more brand recognition and to help with producing more promotional content.

Mix Series Artwork

Template for our Mix series which featured 9 local DJs throughout No Persona’s tenure. The cover image would only feature a press picture of the DJ with the layout having a super simple text hierarchy to ensure the cover image was void of visual clutter when shrunk down to thumbnail size.

The track list template would also follow a simple text hierarchy, with the artist’s name in bold so viewers could easily identify their favourite artists. The inspiration for the track list template was taken from a lot of 2000’s techno-optimistic vinyl cover designs.

No Persona Logo

The wordmark uses a wave effect which ties together perfectly with No Persona’s psychedelic and bass heavy theme. The golden ratio was used as a guide to help influence how intense the wave effect should be. The concept for the logo was discovered early in No Persona’s life through experimenting with different Heading texts for posters. Once the idea was conceptualised, I was able to finesse the design in Illustrator.

The wordmark was used across most of our digital content and even used for stickers which were always popular at our nights.

The logo encompassed everything No Persona without being complicated or untasteful.
